Factors affecting satisfaction of nursing students of nursing major

Introduction: Assessment of students’ satisfaction of their educational major is considered to be an inherent part of nursing schools' activities in the field of organizational behavior and performance. The aim of this study was to assess factors affecting satisfaction of nursing students of nursing major. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 164 nursing students studying at the faculty of nursing and midwifery, Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences. A researcher-made questionnaire in six areas of educational environment conditions, clinical environment conditions, lecturers, social prestige, communication with colleagues, and management was used for data collection. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: The majority (81.10%) of the students had a low level of satisfaction of nursing major. The percentages of the students low satisfaction were as follow: educational environment conditions (84.14%), clinical environment conditions (53.70%), the method of teaching theoretical courses by lecturers (36.60%), the method of clinical training by clinical instructors (37.20%), the method of assessment by lecturers (39.63%), communication with colleagues (81.70%) and social prestige (60.40%). In addition, 31.10% of the students had a low level of satisfaction from the evaluation method used by clinical instructors and 56.70% of them were less satisfied with the course of nursing management. Conclusion: The majority of the students in this study reported a low level of satisfaction of nursing major. In this respect, increasing the quality of theoretical education, improving clinical and evaluation processes and interactions and social prestige are important to promote the quality of education.
