Introduction: Consultation is one of the most effective factors in the students' educational progress. Lack of belief in the effectiveness of consultation and differences in students' attitudes on the effectiveness of counseling can be a barrier to implementation of this program. Therefore, this study aimed to determine and compare the attitude of faculty members and students toward academic counseling. Methods: In this comparative study in 2011, the attitude of 31 faculty members and 250 students (nursing, midwifery and operating room) of Tabriz Nursing and Midwifery faculty with random sampling method, were examined using Adhami's attitude of academic counseling, an 18-item questionnaire. The data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics, (independent t-test, pearson correlation and Oneway analysis of variance) by SPSS version 13. Results: There was a significant difference in the mean and standard deviation of faculty members and students’ attitude 73.51±7.19 and 63.91±8.18, respectively (P<0.0001). Also in this study, the mean and standard deviation of nursing faculty members' attitude (51.37±1.85) was significantly more than midwifery faculty members (47.78±4.80) (P<0.01). Conclusion: According to the findings, there were differences between the attitudes of faculty members and students in some cases. In the viewpoint of faculty members, counseling was necessary to support the student. In the viewpoint of students, consulting required specialty in the field. Attention to these differences is necessary in providing the necessary counseling services by faculty members.
