Introduction: Infertile couples are faced with multiple psychological problems. This semi-experimental study aimed to evaluate the effect of Fordyce happiness model on hardiness and marital adjustment in infertile couples.

Methods: The population were consisted of infertile couples in Quchan and Faruj cities in 2015 that participated voluntarily 20 couples (n = 40) and were randomly assigned to experimental group (10 couples) and control group (10 couples). Couples in experimental group received a psycho-educational program on happiness in 14 sessions (90 minutes). Scale survey tools included Hardiness and Dyadic Adjustment Scale.

Results: Repeated measures analysis of variance and interactive effect of the test and separately on each of the dependent variables (hardiness and marital adjustment) was significant (P<0.01). Also, the effect of group and time of the test on each of the dependent variables was significant (P<0.01). Thus, Fordyce model were significantly effective on the hardiness and marital adjustment. The average difference between pre-test and post-test to measure both variables was significant (P<0.01) and this was statistically significant in favor of the post-test. The mean post-test and follow up on any of the dependent variables were not significant (P>0.05), but the difference between average pre-test and follow-up in all two dependent variables were statistically significant (P<0.01).

Conclusion: Fordyce happiness model training had stable effect on hardiness and marital adjustment. Therefore, we offer implementation of this method in improving the lives of infertile couples in nursing infertility centers.
