Changes in Educational Approaches to Clinical Pharmacology Course at North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences: From Hospital to Pharmacy Skills Laboratory

Introduction: The topic of teaching-learning pharmacology is a very important issue for nursing students. Clinical pharmacology traineeship, as a new course, and the results of widespread searches show that the lack of an appropriate method for presenting the effectiveness of this course. The purpose of the present report is to present the process of implementation and change in approaches to this clinical course at Bojnurd Nursing and Midwifery Faculty affiliated with North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: This course first started with a traditional internship; then, in addition to log book training and conceptual mapping, the use of a clinical pharmacy specialist was added. Finally, the pharmacy skills laboratory at the faculty of nursing and midwifery was established. Over the course of 2 year since the launch of this laboratory, the educational environment has been used, to train approximately 250 students (undergraduate and postgraduate students in nursing, undergraduate students in anaesthesiology, and medicine)
Conclusion: It seems that one of the levers of improving the quality of nursing skills is the revision and innovation of student education. The content of their theoretical training and apprenticeship should also be enhanced to increase their ability to meet the actual needs of the community.
