Effect of the educational counseling program by the supervisor on the level of anxiety in bachelor degree nursing students

Introduction: University students are faced with stress due to changes in their roles and exposure to new situations. Educational counseling and advising by faculty members can be a good strategy for the early discovery of student's problems and prevention from becoming a public issue. The aim of this study was investigate the effect of the educational counseling program by the supervisor on the level of anxiety in bachelor degree nursing students.
Method: This quasi-experimental study was conducted using a before-after design with two groups. The sample was consisted of 60 people in each control and experiment group. Data was collected using the standard Kattle test questionnaire completed before and also after the intervention by the samples. Descriptive and inferential statistical were used to analyze the data.
Results: The samples in both groups were homogenous in terms demographic variable. It was reported that the level of anxiety of the students in both groups was the same before the intervention. (P=0.56). A significant difference was found between the level of anxiety of the students in both groups after the intervention (P=0.001).
Conclusion: Counseling and educational guidance by the supervisor make the communications ties between the supervisor and student stronger. Moreover, it helps with resolving probable educational issues and also avoiding future educational problems. |
