Abstract:   (632 Views)
Introduction: Patients undergoing hemodialysis face various complications such as constipation, which affects their quality of life. This study was conducted with the aim of determining the effect of Cassia Fistula syrup on the quality of life of constipated patients undergoing hemodialysis.
Methods: The present study is a three-blind clinical trial that was conducted between July 2021 and April 2022 on hemodialysis patients in four hospitals affiliated with the Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences. In this clinical trial, 70 constipated patients undergoing hemodialysis were selected by the available method and after random allocation into two drug and placebo groups. For 30 days, the drug group received 10% Folus syrup (each 1 ml contains one-tenth of a gram of dried Folus fruit pulp) in the amount of 10 ml twice a day, and the placebo group received the same amount of placebo syrup. At the beginning of the study, demographic and clinical questionnaires were completed for all patients. Before and 30 days after the intervention, the quality-of-life questionnaire in patients with constipation was completed by the patients. Data analysis was done by SPSS version 22 software. A significance level of 0.05 was considered.
Results: Before and after the intervention, the two groups were similar in terms of demographic variables. The results of the covariance test showed that according to the significance level of 0.05 and the non-significance of the P- value, in the total score of the quality of life questionnaire for patients with constipation (P = 0.251) in both drug and placebo groups means that the outcome variable (post-test) in the two groups, there was no statistically significant difference, The intervention did not affect the quality of life of the patients with constipation, and in other words, the placebo and drug groups had similar effects.
Conclusions: The use of Cassia Fistula syrup has not affected the quality of life of hemodialysis patients.
