Introduction: The role of nursing leadership is crucial in ensuring the well-being and health of communities. This meta-synthesis study aims to identify the challenges, consequences, and antecedents associated with nursing leadership, contributing significantly to the improvement of healthcare service quality.
Methods: The study utilized the meta-synthesis method as outlined by Hare and Noblit. A comprehensive search was conducted in both international and domestic databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, and SID, using the terms "nursing," "qualitative," and "leadership." The search identified 14 qualitative research articles published between 2015 and 2023 that were relevant to the role of nursing leadership.
Results: The selected studies, which covered six countries—Iran, the United States, Norway, Canada, the Netherlands, and South Korea—employed various analytical methods. The final interpretation of the articles revealed three main themes related to the antecedents of nursing leadership, along with seven sub-themes addressing the consequences and challenges of nursing leadership. The findings indicate that nursing leadership can significantly improve healthcare outcomes, particularly in developing countries, highlighting the complex and multi-layered nature of this issue.
Conclusion: The results of this meta-synthesis should be practical and useful for nursing school administrators, educational supervisors, and nursing leaders at various educational levels.
