Introduction: Emotional divorce can have negative psychological and social consequences for people, and enhancing positive life skills can improve relationship quality and marital satisfaction. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of group training in Well-being skills based on positive psychology on marital intimacy and forgiveness in people with a history of emotional divorce.
Methods: The study was a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test, post-test, and control group design with a one-month follow-up. The statistical population included people who had experienced emotional divorce in Tehran in 2024. Of these, 30 people were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. The experimental group received 10 three-hour sessions of Well-being skills training, while the control group received no intervention. Research instruments included the standard marital forgiveness and marital intimacy questionnaires and the positive psychology-based flourishing skills training package. Data were analyzed using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) and paired comparisons in SPSS-26
Results: The results showed that training in Well-being skills significantly increased intimacy (F=19.427; η2=0.271; P<0.01) and marital forgiveness (F=15.782; η2=0.236; P<0.01) in the experimental group, and this effect was also stable at the follow-up stage (P<0.01). Moreover, the mean posttest scores compared to pretest scores demonstrated a positive and direct impact of the training on improving peoples interpersonal behaviors. The control group showed no significant changes. Multivariate analyses also confirmed a significant overall difference between the groups
Conclusion: Group training in Well-being skills based on positive psychology can substantially enhance marital relationships and promote forgiveness in people experiencing emotional divorce. These results highlight the importance of positive psychological interventions in improving peoples’ quality of life.
