Introduction : Early puberty is one of the most common problems and important concern of puberty period. Considering the importance of education in preventive behaviors, the aim of this study was to "Assess the effectiveness of education based on Health Belief Model on the promotion of preventive behaviors of mothers from early puberty of girls".
Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted on 64 mothers referring to kindergarten and cultural center in Damavand city in 2017. The research instrument was a researcher-made questionnaire based on Health Belief Model, that after being approved by reliability and validity during the two steps was given to both groups (before and one month after training). The experimental group received the intervention during two workshop sessions and each session received two hours. . Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 18 and descriptive and inferential (paired t-test, independent t-test) statistics.
Results: The mean scores of mothers' performance in both groups were significantly different after intervention (P = 0.001). This increase was observed in the structures of the health belief model, except for the practice guide (P = 0.24). Between the mean score of all constructs of health belief model in experiment group before (117.81 ± 9.53) and post (158.97 ± 9.72), there was a significant increase in educational intervention (P = 0.001). There was a significant increase between the mean score of all constructs in the health belief model in the control group pre (128.06 ± 14) and post (133.13 ± 14.50) (P = 0.001).
Conclusion: Education based on the health belief model was beneficial to the preventive behaviors of mothers from premature puberty of girls, so educational program based on the health beliefs model and the role of mothers in preventing early puberty of girls, educational interventions are recommended using this model.
