Evaluation of retraining programs from the perspective of nurses in training hospitals of Gorgan, Iran

Introduction: With technological and information progress in medical fields, it is a necessity to organize retraining programs to promote knowledge and skills of nurses and ultimately improve the quality of nursing services in hospitals. In addition, implementation of correct, complete and comprehensive programs requires effective assessment. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate perspective of nurses about retraining programs in Gorgan training hospitals.
Method: In this descriptive and analytical study, 270 nurses in four medical-training hospitals affiliated to Golestan University of Medical Sciences were recruited randomly into the study. Data were collected using Self-made questionnaire in two parts, demographic information and questions related to the research objectives (significant factors in re-education programs). Data were collected and analyzed using SPSS16 software and doing descriptive (Frequency, mean, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (T-test, Anova), and considering levels of significance (P <0.05).
Results: According to the perspective of nurses, the most significant factors in retraining programs were: assessment of the program (mean and standard deviation: 19.451.0), nurses' evaluation before (23.460.0) and after (21.455.0) retraining programs, and nurses' work load (47.459.0).
Conclusion: Attaching importance to retraining in nursing is imperative. In order to improve the quality of these administrative practices, application of principals in retraining programs, persistent needs assessment before implementation of the program and reduction of nurses' workload is recommended. |
