Knowledge and Practice of Nurses in Special Sectors Regarding Prevention of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia

Introduction: Ventilator-associated pneumonia is one of the infections that nurses can have an active role in the prevention of this disease.
Aim: This study aimed to determine the knowledge and practice of nurses in intensive care units regarding prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia in 1395
 Methods: This is descriptive research that 242 nurses participated as a sample. Sampling was done by (Quota Sampling) method. The data collection tool was a questionnaire consisting of demographic characteristics, knowledge, performance toward ventilator-associated pneumonia. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 20, central indices and dispersion, Mann–Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis, and Spearman tests. 
 Results: Mean(±SD) age of participants were 32.9((87/5. The findings showed that the mean score of nurses' knowledge and practice about prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia were (15.02 ± 4.29), (42.4 ± 0.38) respectively, that was in the moderate range. There were no significant differences between knowledge and Patrice of nurses toward prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia(P=0/57).   
 Conclusion: According to the findings of the research, moderation of knowledge and practice relating to the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia can decrease quality of care, and then increasing the length of hospitalization and more complications. Continuing evaluation and education can increase and stable knowledge and Patrice of nurses toward prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia.
