Comparison of the Effectiveness of Structural Family Therapy and Transactional Analysis Therapy on Marital Satisfaction in Couples with Marital Dissatisfaction

Introduction: Supporting the family foundation is a matter of high importance in various societies. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of structural family therapy and transactional analysis therapy on marital satisfaction in couples with marital dissatisfaction.
Methods: This semi-experimental study was conducted with a pretest-posttest design with a control group and follow-up 2 months. The statistical population was all the couples with marital dissatisfaction in Shiraz City in the summer and autumn of 2023. Then, 150 couples with marital dissatisfaction were introduced. Among the 150 couples examined, 45 couples were eligible by simple randomization in three groups, including the structural family therapy experimental group (15 couples), the transactional analysis therapy experimental group (15 couples) and the control group (15 couples). Then, experimental groups underwent structural family therapy (10 sessions 90 minutes) and transactional analysis therapy (10 sessions 90 minutes), and the control group remained on the waiting list and did not receive training. To collect data Enrich marital satisfaction questionnaire in pre-test, post-test, and follow-up, repeated measures analysis of variance was used with SPSS version 28 software to analyze the data.
Results: The results showed that both interventions significantly affected marital satisfaction (P<0.05). In addition, the results of Bonferroni post hoc test showed that structural family therapy is more effective than transactional analysis therapy on marital satisfaction (P<0.05).
Conclusion: : Based on the results of the present study, it can be said that structural family therapy and transactional analysis therapy can be used as a treatment method to on marital satisfaction in couples with marital dissatisfaction and priority of use in in increase marital satisfaction is with structural family therapy.
